"St Peter's Edinburgh" by Michael T R B Turnbull
St Peter’s Edinburgh was opened in 1907 as the extraordinary product
of a decision made in Rome by a Roman Catholic Archbishop, a convert Jewish millionaire and an English poet turned priest. St Peter's Edinburgh examines in detail the creation of this memorable listed building, its role in the anti-Catholic riots of 1935, the development of its congregation and the programme of renewal inspired by the Second Vatican Council. Today, St Peter’s faces, along with many other parishes,
the challenge posed by dwindling congregations and declining numbers of clergy and looks to its past to identify the resources needed to meet the challenge of the future.
