Volunteering Role Descriptor
This ministry falls into three parts:
Direct communication to parishioners through the weekly Newsletter;
The Parish Visitor System whereby homes in the Parish receive letters etc from the Parish Priest;
The Maintenance of the Parish Records.
The Weekly Newsletter
Items are collected and collated to form our weekly Newsletter. The Parish Priest provides information that he would like included and parishioners are encouraged to forward items of interest to the editor. The Newsletter is then photocopied and left in church.
The Parish Visitor System
This system has been in existence in the parish for over 40 years. The parish is divided into districts each with a visitor whose task is to welcome newcomers to the parish, deliver parish letters, and assist in keeping parish records up to date by reporting arrivals and departures to the communications person who in turn informs the Parish Priest. Many visitors volunteer to simply post the letters (usually twice a year in Lent and Advent) through letter boxes while others get to know their district and the parishioners living in it. It is very helpful when information about arrivals and departures are passed on but either way helps keep some kind of communication going within the parish.
The Maintenance of the Parish Records
Welcome sheets with parish information and newcomers’ forms are left at the back of church. When the forms are returned the information is added to the parish records and to the parish visitors’ lists.
