Edinburgh Council – banning Catholic prayers?

A Green Party Councillor in Edinburgh wants to ban peaceful pro-life vigils. They’ve run for over 10 years in Edinburgh without incident. We’re working with other organisations to oppose this. If you’re based in Edinburgh I may ask you to contact your Councillor soon.

Archdiocesan Crisis Pregnancy Service – your opinion?

We’re running a feasibility study to see if the Archdiocese should set up an advice and support service for mums needing help in pregnancy and beyond. What do you think? Have you been involved in this sort of work before? Could you help with a new service if we started it? Answers on an email – prolife@staned.org.uk

Volunteers Needed

Can you volunteer some time or skills with the Pro Life Office?
See below for current opportunities

Fundraising Opportunity:

When Alina found out she was pregnant she felt she had no choice but abortion. She went to an abortion clinic and met a pro-life vigil who offered help and support. Alina was given another choice and now has a beautiful daughter. Today, Alina is bravely taking on Ealing Council who have banned peaceful vigils and even Catholic prayers outside a Marie Stopes abortion centre.
Alina’s case has reached the Appeal Court and is a test case for this type of censorship in the UK. If your parish can fund raise or you can make a donation to Alina’s fund go here:

Ladies – Save the Dates:
Friday 16th – Sunday 18th November 2018

Last year over 400 pro-life women came together to honour St Margaret and celebrate life together. Watch last year’s video  This year the Sisters are planning a ladies open weekend with Evening/Afternoon tea, a tour of their centre and a look at future plans. There will be craft goods, handbags and gifts for sale, plus plenty of time to just enjoy the chat and catch up with Pro-Life friends old and new.

The weekend will be based around 7 available slots where you’ll be able to book a table (for whatever number suits your party) on Friday evening, Saturday (lunch or evening) or Sunday (lunch or evening) Tickets are £15 including a full afternoon/evening tea (Prosecco available separately).

Further details to follow after the summer so, for now, save the date!

Archdiocesan Role of the Laity Day – 6th October:

Have you got tickets yet? The main speaker is Helen Alvare who worked for the US Bishops
on Pro Life Activities. Pro Life work is the most important social work the laity can do in the
Church today – that’s official. Christifideles Laici the Church’s document on the mission of
us lay people says that “Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of
human rights-for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture- is false
and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all
other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination”
Get a preview of Helen in action here  – then email Sr Mirjam Hugens –
Archsecretary@staned.org.uk to reserve your free tickets. You even get lunch!

Volunteers Needed

Database specialist – do you know anyone who is a wizz with Microsoft Access? The Pro Life Office needs some help setting up relationships, normalization and defining the logic. If you understood that last sentence – apply! ·

Social Media monitor – we need to set up systems to monitor social media for pro-life
related keywords. Once in place we can build a team who can spread the prolife
message

Graphics expert – are you good with Adobe products? It would be useful to know
someone who can design newsletters, produce memes and generally come up with
attractive media for print and web

Most of the work can be done remotely. If you have skills in these areas email me at prolife@staned.org.uk These are the current needs. Don’t worry if they’re not for you – there will be more!
